Sweeney Todd at Chance Theatre at Bette Aiken Theater Arts Center

Why see Sweeney Todd?

attend the tale of Sweeney todd!

The worst pies in London are on the menu as Chance Theatre presents Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's retelling of the Demon Barber of Fleet Steet, directed by James Michael McHale and choreographed by Mo Goodfellow. Winston Peacock will be wielding Sweeney's razors, alongside Jocylen A. Brown as his besotted accomplice, Mrs. Lovett. A haunting and gothic spectacle, Sweeney Todd will transport you to 19th-century London for an unforgettable evening - just make sure you don't fancy a shave!

What is the story?

At the center of the musical lies the titular barber. After 15 years spent in Australia for a crime he did not commit, Sweeney Todd returns to the filthy streets of London hell-bent on revenge against the judge who stole his wife and sent him away. Unfortunately for London's miserable inhabitants, his wrath turns his cutthroat razor towards innocents, whose body parts are neatly disposed of by his compatriot Mrs. Lovett, in her tasty meat pies...
